The St John's Wood Society Aims
The Society has been instrumental in the listing of buildings of historic and architectural merit and in the creation of the St John's Wood Conservation areas. It is a recognised body for consultation under the Civic Amenities Act 1967. Local planning applications are referred by the relevant planning authorities to the Society, whose views are respected and often lead to modification of the applications. The St John's Wood Society Objectives
To encourage the following objects by charitable means but not otherwise:
- to encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in St John's Wood
- to stimulate public interest in and care for the beauty, history and character of St John's Wood
- to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest
- to oppose by any means available to the Society any development in any part of St John's Wood which in the view of the Society would detract from the beauty, history and character of that part or its features of general public amenity or historic interest
