St John's Wood - Archive Material

A wealth of archive and local studies material for St John's Wood may be found at the City of Westminster Archives Centre, 10 St Ann’s Street, London, SW1 (020 7641 5180).  If you are tracing the history of a family who lived there or if you want to be your own house detective, you will find plenty of information to interest you.  The collection consists of printed books and old newspapers as well as historic photographs and prints, old maps, census returns and maybe even the long lost deeds to your home.  For details of the collections and opening hours, see Wesminster Archives.

The reference section of Marylebone Public Library, Marylebone Road, London, NW1 (020 7641 1039), has an excellent local history section that includes much that has been written about St. John’s Wood. See Westminster Libraries

The Society also has an Hon. Archivist, who is sometimes able to help members with enquiries.
